HERE IS ALL OF THE BULLSHIT THAT I’VE BEEN CONCOCTING QUIETLY WITH LITTLE TO NO AIM OVER THE COURSE OF OCTOBER-DECEMBER OF THIS YEAR.

TO EVERYONE I HAVE MET ONLINE THAT MAY HAVE MISSED ME DURING THAT SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE FROM THE INTERNET: HI. I FEEL LIKE SHIT BUT IT’S GOOD TO SEE YOU.

I WOULD SAY SOMETHING HERE LIKE “I’ll do better next year! Don’t worry guys!” BUT TRUTH BE TOLD I DON’T EVEN KNOW IF I’LL PUT IN THE EFFORT TO GET OUT OF THIS RUT. I’VE HAD THE LAST THREE MONTHS TO SEE IF I CAN AND THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTING.

ALSO,

HERE IS A GOOGLE DRIVE CONTAINING EACH PHOTO IN FULL RESOLUTION, AS WELL AS A FEW OTHER IMAGES THAT I SIMPLY HAD FORGOTTEN TO PUT IN THE FINAL IMAGE.

I’M GONNA REGRET THIS DESCRIPTION LATER. SORRY FOR BEING SO PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE ON THIS POST. AND NOT MAKING SHIT.

HAPPY NEW YEAR. YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL PEOPLE. KEEP DOING WHAT YOU LOVE, BUT USE THE INTERNET RESPONSIBLY.

sup yall. just coming in to remind everybody i’m not dead, just dumb as fuck. i’ve been meaning to work on some art for quite a while but have just been caught up with schoolwork and my own slothfulness. gonna try and work on getting better at focusing on a goal and not going offtask 20 times because of some shit i see on youtube.

i blame myself for all of this, so if you’re mad then it’s ok. hopefully this’ll be done and dealt with within a reasonable amount of time.

tl;dr

oh and i know nobody cares but album of the week is DONEZO, skipped too many weeks for it to be forgivable

Posted by BumbyJumby - September 2nd, 2023

hey guys there’s only 30 minutes left of this week so I’m gonna have to make this quick (FINISHED WITH TWO MINUTES LEFT)

yeah sorry i just got caught up in school and other shit y’know i never really thought i’d be able to do this streak perfectly so i’ll just change it from every thursday to once every week, no matter the day

ok this week’s album is Persistence Of Vision by VHS Head, an instrumental mashup of old VHS tapes, IDM, and whatever the hell this thing is

iu_1067262_9823150.png

this album has two covers and i like the second better but i can only find the first in high quality, the pic makes more sense once you listen to the album though trust me

OK SO, this album is, as I just described, some techno breakbeat bullshit that uses samples from hundreds of VHS tapes. that is not an exaggeration, here’s what the house of the guy who made this looks like. and you’d think a premise like that would be really distracting and confusing, but in execution it ends up being really well produced! like genuinely each song is so well mixed and layered to the BRIM, I’m still finding things in the songs on here that I hadn’t noticed before, but none of these giant FL studio projects end up sounding overproduced, every little bit and detail unimportant to the base essentials are usually made as components to a main instrument or just strange noises to add to the album’s sound.

speaking of sound I guess now’s a better time than ever to mention the album’s… y’know! sound! really any time right now is a better time than ever to say shit because my time is STRAINEDDD. anyway, each instrument or, I suppose sample would be a better term, ranges from having disgustingly noticeable VHS buzz to being clean as shit. some are more bassy and spacish, while others are simple, restrained, and crusty, it all comes together to make this cacophony of sound unlike anything I’ve heard anywhere else, even from VHS head himself. and the tones of every song are all OVER, like we have songs like jealousy and farewell africa which are pleasant hold music amplified by this deep reverb, and a few like angels never sleep which feel almost like walking out into the woods, on your way to break into a home. it all sounds unique from one another, with there even being a fucking noise/ambient track smack dab in the middle.

if you wanna hear some of the most unique IDM in the scene, then go check out Persistence of Vision. in stereo. because only people who still have their house candlelit and wear big wooden barrels use mono.

7/10

THE GOOD

  • Unique as fuck
  • Doesn’t have a SINGLE instance of reusing samples
  • Knows how to keep a loop interesting for long
  • Comically dense songs
  • Has a funny voice on the second track

THE NOT SO MUCH

  • Some tracks overstay their welcome
  • A few samples feel kinda forced on relisten

i’m probably gonna stop doing this /10 shit like if it’s on the album of the week then you know I’m gonna like it

gonna try and do a weekly album recommendation for the hell of it, though don’t be surprised if you see albums from the same few artists. I’ll try and make the artist range as dense as possible. may also throw in a few EPs, I feel they should be thought of as being equal to albums despite what spotify may say

this week’s album is Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern, a depressed indie rock/trip hop album from once underground rapper Lil Ugly Mane.

iu_1059447_9823150.png

it has a vastly different sound compared to the works he had done before, where once he was rapping over dark, memphis rap-inspired beats with even an artificially lowered voice on Mista Thug Isolation, has now become him singing to strange samples & beats with little vocal range. that minimal vocal range isn’t a downside in my opinion, as it helps play into the meaning of each song & the album’s overall tone.

each song is LUM deconstructing some part of his mental health and/or overall self. i think so at least, the lyrics are cryptic as shit. I prefer it this way though, it leaves them open to your interpretation without such being influenced by someone else’s understanding of lyrics, just figure out what you think lyrics mean by yourself in general. it’s more fun than reading some notes on genius has ever been, that just makes me feel stupid.

Idk what else to say, album’s great, it’s helped me some too.

THE GOOD

  • Fantastic, thought-provoking lyrics
  • Every song feels vastly unique from the last (even the lesser ones, they’re uniquely mid)
  • Great uses of the samples on certain tracks (with iron & bleach & accidents, iscard, clapping seal)
  • Also some great non-sample instrumentals made by LUM (benadryl submarine, hostage master, vpn)
  • Even the tracks that are purely instrumental are great, bird enemy car included
  • Headboard

THE NOT SO MUCH

  • broken ladder isn’t really all that memorable
  • bold futile flavor’s instrumental is a little hit or miss

8.5/10

drawing the scary black man from that one kero kero bonito song in a bit more of a realistic style since my sister thought it’d be neat if I did (the art style that is, not specifically death grips)

you guys heard those little snippets of music zach has been posting onto his tiktok assuming some you are DG fans? they go so damn hard I love every bit of them, the moth vid has to be my favorite

actually this isn’t really what I think she meant by more realistic this is literally just what my usual style looks like now

hey guys, sorry for the fucking drought of posts this month has had. school’s getting into its final stages, and plus i’ve been practicing for a jazz band audition like crazy, so y’know… i got a lot on my plate! don’t worry though, i’m not doing buttfuck nothing for art, i’m cooking up a new OC right now, just trynna figure out his proportions, is all. but in the meantime, go look at somebody else :)

hey fellas! remember last time when i showed off an upcoming art piece? well that has gone to SHIT! and all because of one thing: SHADING WATER.

Yes, the enemy of several artists, shading, has now bit me in the ass, all because I wanted to put Peppino in the water.

iu_957410_9823150.png

don’t worry i’ve shaded the sections whited out, i just like keeping things secret ‘till publishing

if any of you guys know how I could shade water, namely RIPPLY water, then please tell me ASAP! I really don’t wanna make this one part of the piece completely stall the time of finishing it, so any help would be appreciated.

if you don’t know, however, please instead redirect me somewhere that I could get help on this from somebody else, preferably somebody who gets this kinda shit. otherwise, my name is bumbyjumby, and I am in great and immense pain!
